Today’s Healing Word – Sniff

Spring is a great time to take a ‘sniff walk.’

A dog trainer once recommended I take my dog for sniff walks.  During sniff walks, there is no planned destination.  The dog is free to sniff at whatever he finds, for as long as he wants.  Random direction changes are welcome.  Time means nothing. The walk is over when the nose is satisfied.

It’s not only good advice for your dog; it’s good advice for you.  You don’t need to have a dog to take a sniff walk.  The same rules apply with or without a pet along.  There is no destination, or time.  You walk at your own pace, stopping whenever something interesting catches your nose, eyes, or ears.

The goal of the sniff walk is to be in the moment.  Stop and pick up a rock.  Examine every color and texture in the rock.  Sniff it, taste it.  Experience the smell of fresh pine, the feel of the breeze on your face.  If you only go to the end of your driveway and your senses feel satisfied, don’t worry about the mileage.  Your only goal is to experience with all your senses.

Enjoy your ‘sniff walk’.

Today’s Healing Word – Walk

The end of winter is near.  After a season of going inside, it is time to begin to awaken your spirit to new possibilities. It is time to walk.

During the season of cold, we tend to bundle up or stay indoors.  It is a time of rest and dreaming in the old way.  The days are cloudy and dark, the perfect time for quiet reflection on our lives and what we want to dream into being during the next cycle.

As spring approaches, it is time to shed our layers and open ourselves to the new light.  We cast off our heavy clothes, and with them, we cast off our heavy burdens.  We stand a bit taller and feel the freedom of leaving behind what is no longer needed.

Now is a great time to begin your new walk.  Literally, you can go out into nature and walk, listening to the messages of the returning birds, seeing small buds and new shoots emerging.  Feel inside for what is wanting to be awakened in you.  What are you wanting to bring forth in this new time?  What dream are you wanting to manifest?

Are you ready to walk with freedom and creativity?

Today’s Healing Word – Understanding

Understanding comes from a place of deep stillness.

Opening your senses to receiving complete information helps you understand the other. You can open to not only what you see and hear, but also to what you sense, smell, taste, and feel.  When your senses are truly open, you are in a state of deeply listening to the other.

Deep listening in a state of stillness brings true understanding of the self, and therefore of the other. True understanding allows loving wisdom to come through. From this place of stillness, you can address the other in a quiet, and calm manner.

You can find this understanding when you stop talking and begin to listen.

Today’s Healing Word – Journey

The artist captures the journey of the present and preserves this knowledge for all generations.

The human journey has been documented by artists since the first human drew a picture in the sand.  By capturing the present moment, the artist records a moment in time.  When you see a picture of cave paintings, you are seeing a glimpse of the human journey.

Through creative expression, the artist presents this journey on canvas, in song, in story and in dance.  For many ages, history was an oral tradition kept by storytellers.  Telling a good story, whether fiction or history, is more powerful when told through the talent of a true artist.

When you create a work of art, you are accepting the task of being the storyteller for many generations to come.  How we interpret the past has much to do with how we view the art we uncover in paintings, books, architecture, dance and song.

What will future generations learn about this moment from viewing your art?

Today’s Healing Word – Senses

The artist’s senses are open in the present moment.

Art is created in each beautiful present moment.  It is the expression of what is now, and who the artist is now. The artist captures a moment in time on canvas, in song, or in movement.  No two works of art will ever be exactly the same.

This expression comes from what the artist is sensing, hearing, smelling, tasting, touching and seeing. Each individual expression will appeal to the audience through their senses whether it be in a flavorful meal, a exhilarating dance, or a well-crafted love song.

This energy of presence with the senses enables the artist to access the wisdom of all that is and bring that wisdom to the audience in their own unique way.

Which of your senses inspires you to create?

Today’s Healing Word – Alert

Can you be alert enough to sustain the present moment?

Discussions of sustainability usually center around the past or the future. People hold concerns over keeping the past as an ideal of what the future should be. These concerns take us out of the present moment and throw a veil over our alertness.

The present moment is the only thing that is truly sustainable because it will always be here. The past is gone, the future is non-existent.  The present is the only reality we have.

Being alert to where you are, what you are sensing, and appreciating what is here for you now is the key to seeing what is needed for sustainability.

What are you alert to in this moment?  What part of this moment is sustainable for you?
