Today’s Healing Word – Breath

Are you taking your breath for granted?

You do it all day.  As long as you are alive, you are breathing.  For most people, breathing is an unconscious action.  Your body is programmed to breathe. You don’t have to think about breathing to do it.

What happens when you think about your breath?  You can begin to realize the active state of your breathing and the effect it has on each moment.  Are you holding your breath?  Are your breaths shallow and constricted or are they deep and free?

Almost anything you do in life will be easier and more powerful when you are conscious of how you are breathing.  Your breath can calm you.  Your breath can increase your physical power.  Your breath can channel your emotional power.  Coming into relationship with your breath brings you into conscious relationship with all life.

What is your breath teaching you today?

Today’s Healing Word – Change

Sustainability is healthy when it is open to change.

Sustainability is not a fixed state.  Refusing to change under the guise of sustainability does not bring balance to your world.  Harboring a fear of change can chain you to an outdated image of sustainability.

There are many things in our society that are revered because of their age.  Because it is old does not automatically mean it holds value or should be sustained.  Doing something because “it has always been done that way” leads to atrophy.

Being open to change allows a state of sustainability which is vibrant and relevant in the present moment.

What are you holding on to that gets in the way of present sustainability? What fears can you release about change?

Today’s Healing Word – Sustainability

The greatest sustaining source we have is the sun.

Sustainability has become the buzz word in this age where we see our planet being threatened by our greed.  When we look for an example of sustainability, we can look at our sun, the sustaining force of all life on our planet. The sun never stops giving life.

Our sun shines as an example of the spirit fire within each of us.  This spirit fire has also been the source and sustenance of life as we know it.  Within each of us is our own personal sun, rising with us each morning and sleeping within us through the darkest night.

How do you sustain the brilliance of your spirit fire?  What invasions threaten the sustainability of your internal sun?

Today’s Healing Word – Brotherhood

Find the peace of knowing you are connected to the brotherhood of all.

Grandmother spider weaves her web, connecting each point in a continuous thread.  In her web, see the interconnectedness of all.  See your brothers and sisters around the world and how we are all connected in one brotherhood (sisterhood) of being human.

We are all-one and no one is alone.  At any moment, you can reach out to another and find peace together.    Feeling separate is an illusion of the ego.  Grandmother spider’s web circles our earth, connecting you to every human, every race, every color.

What you think and do matters to everyone through this connection.  Who you are affects who we will all become.  When you find peace within, you help heal the brotherhood of all and help heal the planet.

Who will your web touch today?

Today’s Healing Word – Ancestors

Celebrate the gifts of your ancestors.

An antique teapot may be a special gift you received from your grandmother.  It can also be a reminder to appreciate the inner gifts you have received from your ancestors.

The courage of your great-grandfather who ventured to a strange land, or the open heartedness of your great-aunt whose home served as a refuge to animals in need.  These gifts have been given to you through your DNA.

You can give back to your ancestors by allowing their gifts of courage and open-heartedness to grow in you.  When you awaken to these gifts within, you can consciously pass them on to the next generation.

As you gather with family and friends, take a moment to be present with the gifts you have received from your ancestors.

Today’s Healing Word – Present

Each new present moment is a gift.

Being fully awake to the mystery of each present moment is a gift you give yourself.  Accessing a state of stillness allows you to open your senses and appreciate many beautiful expressions of spirit.  The sound of snow falling, the taste of clear water, the smell of wind and the feel of your own skin can bring you to an awareness of the gifts of each moment in life.

During a hectic day, the gift of your smile can be a lifesaver to a stranger.  The gift of your open presence can bring joy to others.

Giving in the present moment doesn’t need to cost money or be extravagant.  A touch, a smile or a few moments of deep listening can be important gifts to share.

Who will you gift with your presence today?

Today’s Healing Word – Inheritance

What boundaries have you established and what boundaries have you allowed others to establish for you?

You may have inherited some of your boundaries from your ancestors.  Our parents teach us boundaries that their parents taught them.   Which of these boundaries are still relevant for your life today?

Openly questioning the roots of your boundaries can help you see more clearly which boundaries to keep and which are no longer needed.   Some of the boundaries you have inherited are helpful.  When your grandmother taught you not to touch poison ivy, you learned a valuable life lesson.  However, if your mother taught you people of another religion were evil, she may have been passing on a lesson that is no longer needed in your world.

Looking at the boundaries you were taught can help you become aware of the boundaries you may be passing on to your children.  Are your boundaries life-affirming for your children?  Are you protecting your children or walling them off with old traditions or ways of being that no longer serve?

How have the boundaries of your ancestors affected your life?   Which walls will you tear down?

Today’s Healing Word – Walls

Are your walls established to keep others out or to keep you in?

When you erect strong walls to keep others out, those same walls can effectively keep you from interacting with others.  When you defend your boundaries from others, you risk closing yourself off to the diversity needed for a healthy life.

Relaxing your boundaries can bring you in contact with amazing people and experiences that can contribute more beauty to your life.  This world is built on the concept of diversity.  No two people, plants or animals are exactly alike.  Each of us brings different talents and gifts to share with others.  Allowing fear to build walls and keep you separate from this brilliant diversity limits your ability to share in those gifts.

Reaching out to others is often the first step in breaking down walls of fear.  Sharing your unique gifts with those you touch also helps others to break down their own walls.

Which walls have you built out of fear?  Who will you reach out to today to help you tear down those walls and fully experience the diversity of life?

Today’s Healing Word – Territory

Your experience is woven among the territories you live in and interact with.

Make a list of the territories of your life such as your home, work, family, friends, hobbies, etc.  What territories have you created in your life and how does your ego present itself in each of your territories?

Do you put on a different face at work than you do at home?  Are you a different person in your car than you are at the gym?  Where is your most authentic self allowed to shine?  In which territories is your spirit being diminished?

When we allow the territories of our lives to restrict our boundless potential, we limit the gifts we can bring to the world.  Opening to the true light within you in all territories of your life will bring more light into the territories of others.

Which territories do you enjoy being in?  Which territories are life-affirming?  What changes can you make to bring more beauty to those territories which are not life-affirming?

Todays’ Healing Word – Conceive

Are you an open and welcoming to the physical beauty your spirit can conceive?

Nature only creates beauty. It is humans who distort that beauty and open the door to ugliness.  Your physical body was created with beauty and continues to shift and change to re-create that beauty.

When you begin to believe the lies society creates about beauty, you may get the impression that the sacred vessel of your body needs to be changed to conform to someone else’s ideals. Loving yourself as a perfect vessel to hold your unique spirit will allow your true beauty to shine through.

Hair styles, make up and clothes can be used to hide the original beauty of your body and make it resemble a societal norm that may not always be beautiful.  Starving yourself to be thin, hiding behind pancake make up or wearing uncomfortable clothing to fit a certain style does not honor the beauty your spirit conceived for you.  When you access the ability to love yourself in whatever form your spirit chose to inhabit, your personal appearance can be adorned to enhance that beauty.

Letting your spirit light shine through will bring out the most beautiful you. What will you do today to allow your natural beauty to shine through?
