Today’s Healing Word – Sniff

Spring is a great time to take a ‘sniff walk.’

A dog trainer once recommended I take my dog for sniff walks.  During sniff walks, there is no planned destination.  The dog is free to sniff at whatever he finds, for as long as he wants.  Random direction changes are welcome.  Time means nothing. The walk is over when the nose is satisfied.

It’s not only good advice for your dog; it’s good advice for you.  You don’t need to have a dog to take a sniff walk.  The same rules apply with or without a pet along.  There is no destination, or time.  You walk at your own pace, stopping whenever something interesting catches your nose, eyes, or ears.

The goal of the sniff walk is to be in the moment.  Stop and pick up a rock.  Examine every color and texture in the rock.  Sniff it, taste it.  Experience the smell of fresh pine, the feel of the breeze on your face.  If you only go to the end of your driveway and your senses feel satisfied, don’t worry about the mileage.  Your only goal is to experience with all your senses.

Enjoy your ‘sniff walk’.

Today’s Healing Word – Joints

When you go for your spring spirit walk, how many joints in your body are you using?

You have somewhere around 230 joints in your body. Your physical body is the home to your spirit and your spirit yearns for expression.  When you allow your spirit to use all of the  joints in your body, you give yourself full expression.

As you walk, which joints are locked or sluggish?  Start at your hips.  Feel each hip joint as is moves and try to accentuate those movements.  Now go to your knees, your ankles, your feet and toes.   Feel each joint moving with every step you take.

Now, move up your spine, to your shoulders, your elbows, wrists and fingers.  Move your neck and your head.  Feel the fluidity returning to your body.  Feel the pathways you have opened for your spirit to soar.

You may think walking this way would look silly, however, it doesn’t have to be.  Very subtle movements may not be seen by others, but they will be felt by you.  When you loosen your joints with movement, you begin to feel the beauty of fluid motion.

You are a dancer in the sunlight!  Express yourself!

Today’s Healing Word – Walk

The end of winter is near.  After a season of going inside, it is time to begin to awaken your spirit to new possibilities. It is time to walk.

During the season of cold, we tend to bundle up or stay indoors.  It is a time of rest and dreaming in the old way.  The days are cloudy and dark, the perfect time for quiet reflection on our lives and what we want to dream into being during the next cycle.

As spring approaches, it is time to shed our layers and open ourselves to the new light.  We cast off our heavy clothes, and with them, we cast off our heavy burdens.  We stand a bit taller and feel the freedom of leaving behind what is no longer needed.

Now is a great time to begin your new walk.  Literally, you can go out into nature and walk, listening to the messages of the returning birds, seeing small buds and new shoots emerging.  Feel inside for what is wanting to be awakened in you.  What are you wanting to bring forth in this new time?  What dream are you wanting to manifest?

Are you ready to walk with freedom and creativity?

Today’s Healing Word – Ignite

Like moths, we are drawn to fire.

Ignite a campfire and people will come.  We are drawn to flame for the warmth it provides, and also for the beauty.   The colors of the rainbow can be found in a campfire.

We depend on fire to cook our food and heat our homes.  Nature depends on fire to renew the landscape and allow new seeds to open.  Fire has a way of cleansing and opening possibilities.

We also depend on the fire of our spirit which keeps us alive.  The fire inside of us keeps our bodies warm and our spirit bright.  When you allow your ignited spirit to shine, people are drawn to you.

Like any fire, there is a balance to be found between burning brightly and burning out.  When you feel your fire burning out, ignite it again with creativity and magic. Connecting with other people’s spirit fire will help keep your own ignited.

How will you ignite your spirit fire today?

Today’s Healing Word – Breath

Are you taking your breath for granted?

You do it all day.  As long as you are alive, you are breathing.  For most people, breathing is an unconscious action.  Your body is programmed to breathe. You don’t have to think about breathing to do it.

What happens when you think about your breath?  You can begin to realize the active state of your breathing and the effect it has on each moment.  Are you holding your breath?  Are your breaths shallow and constricted or are they deep and free?

Almost anything you do in life will be easier and more powerful when you are conscious of how you are breathing.  Your breath can calm you.  Your breath can increase your physical power.  Your breath can channel your emotional power.  Coming into relationship with your breath brings you into conscious relationship with all life.

What is your breath teaching you today?
